Environment Lam Jinn Laan, Serene 5D (2016-2017)
to ship the food here. For instance, for a pack of British lettuce, it would
have taken a truck ride, a ferry or perhaps a plane ride. Just think about
how many carbon footprints it takes to ship one pack of lettuce! So, we
supported local farms and ate what we Hongkongers grew. Besides, it's
fresh! Anything tastes splendid when it's fresh.
Next, eat organic food. As you may all know, eating organic food
helps us save the environment. Without chemical fertilisers, less chemical
waste would be produced, and less toxic substances would be dumped into
the sea without proper treatment. As a result, there would be less pollution.
We ate foods that were clean and natural, and what's more, it's healthier!
However, despite all the benefits environmentally friendly food brings
about, there was one difficulty ─ finding the right supplier. As Hong Kong
is getting more and more developed, local farms are getting harder to find.
A local and organic farm is even harder, and their clients usually book their
products in advance. Thus, it took us some time to find a supplier to make
this plan work. Luckily, after researching and a lot of hard work, we finally
found a farm that was generous enough to grant our wish.
So what are you waiting for? Environmentally friendly foods aren't
just green, but healthy. Join us and eat green! Green Action will soon
organise a green cooking class. Be sure to tune in! Thank you.
