Dear Jay,
I’m sorry to hear about your unpleasant experiences and I understand
you have suffered a lot. Don’t worry, let me give you some advice to solve
the problems you have faced.
You mentioned that you can’t make friends in the UK. Perhaps you
should change the way you communicate with others. People in the UK
are not like Hongkongers, they like to tell funny jokes. Sometimes you
treat the jokes too seriously and overreact to them. This really hinders your
chance of making friends. What’s more, if you want to expand your social
circle, you can join more school activities such as sports teams and interest
classes. I’m sure you will meet awesome people with similar interests!
You also said that the food is awful there. If you really dislike the food,
you should try to cook yourself. You can learn by enrolling in cooking
classes at your school and watching YouTube videos. Don’t forget to treat
me to a meal once you’ve learnt how to cook, I’m looking forward to trying
your dishes. Anyway, when in Rome do as the Romans do. You need to get
used to the culture, the living style and the diet of the UK. You will like the
food someday, trust me!
After I read about your third problem, I really wanted to punch you
in the face! It makes me jealous that you have so much time because I’m
always busy with my studies. But if you really have too much spare time,
you should increase your vocabulary by reading more books. It’s important
for you to improve your English if you want to get good academic results.
