And now all he needed to do was wait until the morning...
Warmth returned to the land. Sunshine shone on Lisa and Leonardo.
Quietly, he snuck out of bed. After sharpening his wooden spear, he took
a few remaining strawberries and beans, and left his cave. Putting his foot
down onto the soft and white snow, he realized that winter had come.
It was a bold journey. Finally, Leonardo was in the forest. He stood
still and looked up. The trees were magnificent and tall. Little movement
was seen and the wind seemed to have disappeared. Shadows loomed over
him. Only bits of sunlight managed to reach the moist ground, a mixture
of snow and mud, as if telling him even the purest of the purest would be
contaminated by the ferocity of this land.
Nevertheless, there was no turning back. One step at a time, putting
his feet in and out of the snow, Leonardo went on without hesitation.
After a long walk, he sat down beside a tree to rest. He slid down, slacking.
The trees were covered in a silvery white color. Everything was serene and
peaceful.
‘Resting for a minute or two won’t do any harm...,’ he consoled
himself. Gradually, he closed his eyes. Leonardo’s world fell into complete
darkness...
Thump, thump, thump... Heavy footsteps drew near Leonardo. ‘Roar!’
It was a furious growl from a mighty animal. Leonardo opened his eyes to
puzzle out the incoming threat ─ a black beast which was taller than any
human. Its eyes focused on its puny prey with lust.
Yet it was too late. The sharp and long claws of the beast had already
penetrated his stomach. Thick and red liquid immediately spilt out from
his torso.
