Personal Growth Shum Kam Yuk, Joanna 6F (2016-2017)
given an opportunity to hone my generic skills deemed prerequisite in
both the workplace and society. As endurance is highly valued in the
job requirement, I grew stronger and sturdier than ever before, not only
physically but also mentally, after putting up with the many torturing
constraints and hard blows. Upon hard times, I have come to realize the
meaning of patience and tolerance in order to get by tough feelings and
situations that get out of hand. To add the icing on the cake, I learnt better
body language and communication strategies, for a vivid portrayal of a
carton figure undoubtedly needs skills. In the process I felt like putting on
a mime show on the stage while I could only use my dexterity and sense
of wit to express myself as a lively character. The whole experience was so
difficult yet rewarding and fulfilling.
After all, the experience of my summer job in Hong Kong Disneyland
as a furry Dale was something similar to a rose with thorns ─ tormenting,
yet beautifully indulged in the magical wonders of daily witnessing on
typical days. Children’s exhilarated laughter, all-out screams and flowerlike
grins sufficed to cover the faults in the job, just as people zero in on the
radiant aura of the rose itself rather than the thorns accompanied. The job
is plain yet glorious so I don’t feel any regret having undertaken it.
