2. Sources of students’ stress
The survey results showed a majority of the students (89%) had stress
due to exams and tests, whereas 63% of the respondents were stressed
due to homework. A small group of students was stressed due to parents’
pressure (27.4%). A minority of the students was stressed due to teachers’
pressure (16.4%).
3. Ways to cope with stress
A majority of the students (74%) would listen to music to lessen their
stress. 16.4% of the respondents would talk to their friends to relieve stress.
5% of the students would talk to their parents, and 4% would talk to their
teachers.
Most of the students (96%) had never had suicidal thoughts derived
from stress.
More than half (52%) of the respondents would utilize stress as a
pushing force to help them improve and strive for excellence, but a majority
of the students (82.2%) still disapproved of parents and teachers exerting
stress on students.
Analysis
With reference to the data collected from the survey, it was found that
students were quite stressed.
It is worth highlighting that most students said that exams and tests
were the major source of their stress. This suggests that schools may need
to take a different approach with these assessments. Although exams and
